We are home after a brilliant final day!  Last night, we all went to sleep so quickly and needed waking up this morning!  After making another sandwich and eating a hearty breakfast we headed off for our last activity of the trip.

Group 1 enjoyed camp cookery, group 2 did crate stacking and group 3 took on the zip wire.  All of the groups really enjoyed their final activity and it was wonderful to see the children supporting and encouraging each other right the way to the end.

It has been a jam packed day!  The morning started off with breakfast followed by sandwich making before we headed off on our second activity of the trip.  Group 1 tackled the zip wire, group 2 went canoeing and group 3 enjoyed camp fire cookery.

After a busy morning we had our lunch in the sunny garden and enjoyed playing lots of different games together.  Then in the afternoon it was off for another activity with group 1 heading off to the river to canoe, group 2 climbing...

Day one of Horstead has been great!  We arrived and set off for a lovely lunch by the River Bure.  Then, we headed back to the centre for our first activity.  One group enjoyed canoeing with their boats tied together to ensure they were more stable on the fuller river.  They paddled quite a way upstream and got really good at paddling!  Another group had to work in pairs to take on crate stacking.  Everyone worked really hard with the best group creating a tower 15 crates high!  The...

We can’t believe that today was our last full day and what a day it has been!  We all completed our final activities which included raft-building and the zip wire for some of us.  Working as a team, we tied a range of knots (half hitches, figure of eights and square lashings) to create our sturdy, pond-worthy vessels from planks of wood and barrels.  Then, after we had all faced our fears and flown down the zip wire, we successfully raced our rafts against another team....

Today, after another hearty breakfast we set off to take on Mam Tor!  It was a challenging trek to the summit (517m above sea level) which saw us walking on the old road (or what is left of it) before taking a steep ascent up to the top.  We persevered and kept each other going, supporting everyone to get to the top even when it seemed impossible! When we did arrive at the top, the views were stunning and made the climb worthwhile.  Our journey down was a little gentler and we were h...

What a busy first full day it has been!  Today, each group has done two activities.  Some of us headed off for weaselling, scrambling over rocks and wiggling through narrow gaps.  We had to work together to guide each other around a range of routes and were surprised at the challenges we tackled successfully.  Others of us went to Bagshaw Cave, climbing down almost 100 steps to explore the underground tunnels.  We learnt about how the caves had been formed millions of years ago and f...

We have arrived in beautiful Derbyshire after a fairly long (and relatively Baby Shark-free!) journey.  The children are settled into their rooms, have made their beds and have enjoyed a delicious tea.  After tea, we headed off for a walk to Odin’s Mine.  We enjoyed looking at the scenery and managed to mainly avoid the rain.

The children are all now in bed ready for a busy day tomorrow!

We have arrived safely home!  Experts by now, we made our sandwiches and fuelled up with breakfast ready for the day ahead.  We enjoyed our final activities before we had our last lunch and said thank you and goodbyes to the Centre staff.  The trip has been so much fun and we can’t wait to tell you all about it!

20 Sep 2018

The day started with us making our sandwiches and the enjoying a yummy breakfast of cereal, toast and yoghurt.  After this, we put on our waterproofs and braved the elements for our first activity of the day.  All of the groups worked really well together, listening to instructions to learn new skills and conquer personal challenges.

We had an indoor picnic for lunch, including an amazing homemade flapjack, to prepare us for a busy afternoon of activities.  The sun finally shone...

We have arrived!  When we first got to the centre, we headed off to the River Bure for a walk and picnic lunch.  It was lovely to get some fresh air and blow the cobwebs away.  After we had settled into our rooms, we set off on our first activity.  Some of us went back to the river for canoeing, another group worked in pairs to take on the crate stacking, and a different group made and cooked bread around the camp fire whilst the last group took to the sky on the climbing wall and zi...
